Impressive work of the communist regime. They also do bungee on the other side of the dam, however I would not try it...
Curtea de Arges monastery
In our way to the mountains, we drove through Curtea de Arges, and took a minute to visit the monastery that I have heard so much about. I remember the legend told by my mom, how Manole placed Ana into the walls of the church so that the building would not fall down anymore. Impressing and beautiful. See below.
balea-lake
Well, after seeing Vidraru dam, we drove a little bit more and finally reached Balea, a glacier lake in the Fagaras mountains, in Romania. They say that the snow and glacier never melts up there, but, well, I heard some stories that in Jul-Aug it does sometimes. Talk about global worming!
The road through the mountains is amazing, and i actually got to see a bear running near our car :) Lee actually caught it on camera, it may be the same bear as we were both, coincidentally, on the same road at the same place :)
Driving on Transfagarasan
Another amazing work from our communist era. No, I did not like the regime at all, but seeing how they just cut the mountain and built that road... I don't know...
I placed some pics below. But nothing compares to seeing all Transilvania from up there!
Albota - the place where I learned how to fish :)
I don't know if I told you, but this was my birthday trip :D You know when it's your birthday, and you feel like running away? Well, I literally do :) Never mind that - this post is about a wonderful place we accidentally found: Albota. It is a place that offers accommodation & food in the middle of the wilderness (see photo with the natural reservation). But more that that, they raise trout and have a dedicated fishing facility, where you can try your luck. At first, there were so many fish there, that I thought to myself "piece of cake!" and we went to rent the equipment and... worms. But then, the fish just would not byte, though you could see them through the water. Bugger! It took some rain and a 3 to 4 hours 'till we got some. And the lady at were we stayed cooked it on the grill for us, so that was really nice. Additionally, they had a special place for kids to play, and they had a pony and horses, a swimming pool for us ladies, and some chairs to sit and get tanned. Sadly, we had to go, back to the village (Cartisoara) through the field of fern, and a beautiful sunset. Lovely!
