Naples, Italy - Pizza, pasta & Capri

Naples, Italy

I spent :

400 EUR

I'd recommend this destination for:

Places to Eat & Drink

  • Ristorante Ciro

Here I watched the harbor in a rainy day and had the best expresso ever.Located right near Castel dell'Ovo.

Places to Stay

  • Hotel Cavour

Clean budget hotel, however the wooden structure made the upper story rooms to shake whenever the tram passed through Piazza Garibaldi. Better than a hostel, not 3 stars though.

Notes

Naples in February

Lovely weather to see the city - unexpectedly good, actually. At home there were -20 degrees, and after 2 hours flight we got to 20 :) Lucky me I said to myself, and begun to walk around the city with the map I got from the airport and the printed must see places I had from home.

The city is lovely - bigger than I expected, with an old city center on the Mediterranean shore that was the main shopping & eating area.

What we experienced at first was the awful traffic! People, cars and scooters all following their own directions, each participant struggling to get to where they were going.

We ran into some sort of demonstrationat first. See the pics!

Castel Nuovo, Naples, Italy

A definitely must see - right on the shore, near the port.Castel Nuovo built around 1280. Entrance is 5 EUR, and besides from the interior court and the paintings exposition inside you can also see the panoramic view of the port, right to the Vesuvius mountain in the background.

Castel dell'Ovo in Naples

Medieval castle in Naples, a "no miss" due to it's impressive fortress look, also the positioning - the castle rests on a small island right on the Mediterranea shore, just ~600 meters away from Castel Nuovo.
Read more about it on Wikipedia how the castle (The "Egg-castle") actually has its name from a legend, here.
