Castellane was our first real Provencal village, here we enjoyed the small cafes, boulangeries and restaurants hidden through the small streets. In the morning the elders gathered in the sports bar, read the paper and draw a lottery ticket, not before saluting each other 3 times :)
What I didn't like
It would have been nice if the old church in the top of the mountain could be visited, but it was no way to get there.
We stayed at Castellane a few days in the camping, as this is the point where several driving routes begin if you want to see the upper Provence. The village is well known for extreme sports (white water rafting), although the water course - Verdone - was not that scary.
