Notes

I spent here a lovely couple of days driving by with Andreea and exploring the island and trying out all that yummy Italian food. The weather was hot and I mean hot: mid 30′s celsius to almost 40 and sunny but dry. Locals have started going to the beach, primarily Fontane Bianche in Cassibile, as well as beaches in Noto and Avola. I am partial to Fontane Bianche even as the place is becoming one overcrowded human-covered sandless place. I guess old habits are hard to break.

My first days were spent in Taormina, a gorgeous mountain-top town on the eastern side of Sicily, whose main distinguishing feature is an ancient Greco-Roman Theatre that is still in use today. The town itself has to be among the most picturesque destinations anywhere, with its beautiful buildings, narrow streets and passageways and stunning views of Mount Etna and the Mediterranean.

We went to the ancient town of Siracusa and an exploration of the gorgeous coastline just east of Taormina, including the town of Mazzaro and Isola Bella.
